Banff fest picks ABC entertainment chief Paul Lee for opening keynote

ABC Entertainment Group topper Paul Lee is to deliver the CBC/Radio-Canada opening keynote speech at the Banff World Media Festival in June.

Lee, who heads up all creative and business operations for ABC Studios and Times Square Studios, on June 11 will provide his take on a fast-changing global entertainment business in Banff.

“We look forward to him sharing his vast expertise and insights with our delegates.  His keynote address will be a great way to kick off what promises to be a wonderful and leading-edge Banff,” Ferne Cohen, the festival’s executive director, said in a statement Tuesday.

The British TV veteran worked at the BBC before crossing the Atlantic in 2004 to take control of the ABC Family channel.

ABC’s Anne Sweeney tapped Lee to take the helm at the network’s entertainment division in 2010, and Lee cemented his role with a management shakeup last year and the formation of the Times Square Studios outfit to oversee entertainment programming and create a new day-time ABC schedule.
