Playback Summit: New speakers confirmed

Jennifer Dettman, CBC head of factual entertainment, Jason Chaney, VP strategy at Tribal DDB and Tony Walsh, producer and director at Phantom Compass, have joined the speaker lineup for the inaugural Playback Summit, happening April 25 at the Bram and Bluma Appel Salon in Toronto.

Dettman will speak as part of the “Reality: New or Improved?” panel, moderated by David Paperny, president and executive producer of Paperny Entertainment.

As part of “The New Marketing Plan,” Chaney will discuss interactive and mobile digital marketing options, how to “earn” media to cost effectively build audience, and how producers can be more proactive and creative when it comes to getting the word out.

Walsh joins the Digital ROI” panel, moderated by Gavin Friesen, interactive director, Teletoon Canada, in which the pros and cons of various revenue models for digital projects will be deconstructed.

Claire Freeland and Beverley Shenken have also joined the Summit’s 30 Minutes With… sessions, which provide an opportunity to learn about a programmer’s needs and meet these new heads of content as they map out strategies for their respective networks.

Freeland, director of original programming for Rogers Broadcasting, guides the original scripted and unscripted Canadian programming strategy across Rogers’ television services, including Citytv, OLN, The Biography Channel and FX (Canada).

Shenken, ZoomerMedia’s VP programming, television division, directs acquisitions and scheduling strategies for Vision TV, ONE and two over-the-air stations, Joytv10 in Vancouver and Joytv11 in Winnipeg.

They join Corus Entertainment’s Vibika Bianchi and Discovery Canada’s Edwina Follows in the lineup of new Canadian programmers.
