Jason Priestley to direct Cas & Dylan indie feature

Montefiore Films is eyeing a July start date in western Canada for Cas & Dylan, an indie dramedy to be directed by Jason Priestley.

The Call Me Fitz star will helm the road trip movie from a script by Jesse Gabe, a writer/story editor on CBC’s Being Erica.

Gabe’s character-driven dark comedy portrays a 61-year-old dying man’s plan to check out on his own terms, which takes a reluctant detour when he inadvertently winds up on the lam with an “anything-but-normal” 22-year-old girl.

Tatiana Maslany, who played Sarah Wexler on Being Erica, has come on board the indie project as a lead.

Toronto-based Mark Montefiore, who produced Picnicface for Breakthrough Entertainment and The Comedy Network, is also producing Cas & Dylan, which will be shot between Winnipeg and Victoria, B.C. next summer.

Additional casting announcements are to come as the film is in its final packaging stages, with development financing from Telefilm Canada.

Priestley, Gabe and Maslany are represented in Canada by The Characters Talent Agency.
