NFB’s Bla Bla wins SXSW Interactive Art Award

Interactive film Bla Bla, from Quebec director Vincent Morisset, won a SXSW Interactive Art Award on Thursday at the South by Southwest Festival in Texas.

The viewer directs the interactive tale, developed by AATOAA and produced by Hugues Sweeney of the NFB, by playing and searching through six chapters, each of which depicts a different aspect of communication.

Bla Bla uses xerography, drawing on paper, ActionScript-generated animations, puppet stop-motion combined with real-time 3D mapping,” Morisset earlier explained.

“I wanted Bla Bla to feel handmade, imperfect, fragile, so we forget about the technology,” he added.

Earlier in the week, the project was a winner of an Entertainment Award in the annual Communication Arts interactive competition.
