David Cronenberg preps first TV gig with Knifeman

David Cronenberg is turning his attention to TV, with plans to direct the pilot for a Knifeman drama from Media Rights Capital.

The project, based on a biography by Wendy Moore about John Hunter, a famous British surgeon, is Cronenberg’s first for the small screen.

The Canadian director will also executive produce the drama, which focuses on the lengths Hunter goes to uncover the body’s hidden secrets, and is being shopped to broadcasters internationally.

No word on casting for the pilot, which was written by Rolin Jones.

Jones, Sam Raimi, Josh Donen and Robert Zotnowski are also joining Cronenberg as executive producers.

The Canadian director recently released A Dangerous Method, and his next theatrical release is Cosmopolis, which stars Robert Pattinson, Paul Giamatti and Juliette Binoche.
