Phase 4 Films takes Bindlestiffs for Kevin Smith’s banner

Canadian indie distributor Phase 4 Films has its first pick for its Kevin Smith’s SModcast Pictures Presents label.

Phase 4 acquired the North American rights to writer-director Andrew Edison’s high school comedy Bindlestiffs.

The Canadian distributor in January first unveiled plans to pact with Kevin Smith to release the iconic director’s films through his production shingle, SModcast Pictures.

Phase 4 will release up to 12 films a year as part of the Kevin Smith’s SModcast Pictures Presents banner.

Edison wrote the comedy screenplay for Bindlestiffs, which features three smart-mouthed high school virgins suspended from school and heading to the big city to live out the plot of The Catcher in the Rye, with Luke Loftin.

Phase 4 will release Bindlestiffs in June, along with a theatrical tour by Smith and the filmmakers.

The deal for Bindlestiffs was negotiated by Phase 4’s Larry Greenberg and Katharyn Howe, with WME Global and Caliber Media representing the filmmakers.
