B.C.’s Interactive Fund names 2012 recipients

A transmedia comedy web series, an interactive light sculpture and an immersive “bookumentary” are amongst the recipients of BC Film + Media and the BC Arts Council’s 2012 Interactive Fund, announced Wednesday.

The Interactive Fund is a program that supports production of original interactive digital media content owned and controlled by B.C.-based companies or individuals, with funding in the form of a non-recoupable advance of up to $50,000.

Vancouver-based prodcos Brown Eyed Girl Productions and blyssful productions will receive funding for dAds, a 13 x 30-minute web series with user-driven content.

Another recipient is Vancouver-based Tangible Interaction Design Inc., which creates interactive, sensory public installations and artwork. The studio created the PixMob Zygote balls used in Arcade Fire’s 2011 Coachella performance, a production that was executed in collaboration with Montreal-based multimedia setmaker Moment Factory. Tangible will receive funding for Halo, an interactive light sculpture.

Also receiving funding is The Goggles Media Group, creators of NFB-produced transmedia doc Welcome to Pine Point, for Touch, an immersive “bookumentary” for iPad.

Kibooco Interactive Inc.’s online hub for kids, Kibooco; Soma Television’s Fan Query, a system through which audiences can communicate with fictional characters; Mamaoo Pictures’ interactive language-learning app My Cree; Pug Pharm Productions’ FanGage (site graphic pictured), a plug-in used for instant audience engagement; location-based mobile app Visible City from Switch United Designs; and a mobile game and apps from Btwxt Games Inc. are the other projects receiving support through the 2012 Interactive Fund.

The organization also announced Wednesday the recipients of the Digital Media Development Envelope, a program providing film- or TV-based entertainment companies with funding to support interactive digital media initiatives, in the form of a non-recoupable advance of up to $25,000.

This year’s recipients include AMF Productions Inc., Arcana Studio Inc., Bardel Entertainment Inc., Brightlight EBTV Media Inc., Contradiction Films, Omni Film Productions Ltd., Raven West Films Ltd., and Zeros 2 Heroes Media Inc.

Both the Interactive Fund and Digital Media Development Envelope are partnerships between BC Film + Media and the BC Arts Council.
