The shift to digital continues – Empire Theatres is opening a new 8-screen theatre complex in St. John’s, Nfld, with integrated DLP digital projection in each auditorium.
In addition, one auditorium in the new facility will be designed to feature Empire Extra – a custom-designed multi-channel sound system and wrap-around screen on which to watch digital presentations – which the company says in a statement, will create a “heightened sensory experience” for the audience.
All auditoriums will have curved screens, Dolby Digital surround sound, stadium-style seating and RealD 3D capability.
Construction will begin this year on the complex, and is set to open in Field Power Centre in 2013.
The new theatre will be the third Empire facility in the St. John’s area, with two others in the Avalon Mall and Mount Pearl.
Empire Theatres is headquartered in Nova Scotia.
