The Victoria Film Festival has picked the comedy/horror A Little Bit Zombie by first-time director and producer Casey Walker as its Canadian gala pic on Feb. 4.
Walker will walk the red carpet outside the Odeon Theatre in downtown Victoria for the gala, along with cast members Shawn Roberts, Crystal Lowe, Kristopher Turner, Kristen Hager and Emilie Ullerup (Sanctuary).
Victoria Film Festival director Kathy Kay in a statement said of the homegrown gala pick: “With a shuffling community of zombie enthusiasts in Victoria, we’re thrilled to present A Little Bit Zombie as our Canadian gala film.”
A Little Bit Zombie portrays a man who becomes infected during his bachelor party, and his attempts to keep it together while avoiding an obsessed zombie hunter.
The original screenplay was co-written by Evil Dead: The Musical creator Christopher Bond and Trevor Martin.
John Griffith coproduced the indie pic with Walker, with Kevin C.W. Wong serving as cinematographer.
Walker crowd-sourced financing for the movie, which was shot in Sudbury – where it secured additional coin from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation.
Zombie is produced by Cave Painting Pictures and will be distributed by Full Plate Productions.
