Entertainment One (eOne) has struck a deal to release movies from Montreal’s Remstar Films countrywide.
The exclusive three-year distribution agreement covers all Canadian rights in all media, excluding theatrical, VOD and French-language TV rights in Quebec, which Remstar will handle.
The Montreal-based film producer and distributor has been a major player in Quebec since brothers Maxime and Julienne Rémillard founded the company in 1998.
Remstar’s French-language film credits include award-winning titles like Polytechinique (pictured) and Funkytown.
Now the Quebec distributor is pacting with eOne to release its product throughout Canada, especially in the English-speaking market.
“We’re excited to work with the eOne team and confident that they are a highly-complimentary [sic] partner for us in the Canadian film marketplace in our strategy to broadcast and distribute Canadian and international quality content,” Remstar co-president and CEO Maxime Rémillard said in a statement.
Remstar got into broadcasting in 2008 when it rescued the Quebec broadcaster TQS from creditor protection under former owners CTVglobemedia and Cogeco.
