Telefilm Canada announced Thursday that eight new French-language feature films will receive $9.2 million in funding from first round of the Canada Feature Film Fund for 2012-2013.
The eight films invested include:
4 soldats by Coop Video, written and directed by Robert Morin. Following a young soldier’s love of writing, the film is distributed by Metropole.
Amsterdan, by Cirrus, directed by Stefan Milijevic, and written by Milijevic, Gabriel Sabourin and Louis Champagne. Distributed by Alliance Vivafilm, the thriller follows three childhood friends whose weekend trip is upended by one of their disappearances.
Les Boys, le premier chapitre by Montreal-based Melenny Productions, written and directed by Richard Goudreau and co-directed by Louis Saia. The film, distributed by Les Films Séville is a prequel, following the boys in 1965 when they form a neighbourhood hockey team to take part in the Christmas tournament, and the experiences they face together.
Une jeune fille, by Films 53/12, written and directed by Catherine Martin. Following the unlikely friendship between a teen wanderer and a reticent backcountry farmer, the film is produced by K-Films Amerique.
Lac Mystère, by Novem, directed by Érik Canuel and written by Diane Cailhier. A 45-year-old businessman struggles to deal with human interactions as he tries to isolate himself from society by changing his name.
Louis Cyr by Christal Films Productions, directed by Daniel Roby and written by Sylvain Guy. The story of Louis Cyr, the strongest man in the world, who is still vulnerable to his feelings of inferiority as an illiterate and uneducated man, is distributed by Les Films Christal.
Premier Amour by Montreal’s Cinémaginaire, written and directed by Guillaume Sylvestre. Distributed by Alliance Vivafilm, the film follows the 14-year-old son of bourgeois couple who returns to Quebec after several years working in Europe, who falls in love with a troubled young girl.
Rouge sang by Ciné Télé Action, directed by Martin Doepner, and written by Joseph Antaki, Martin Doepner and Jean Tourangeau. On New Year’s Eve in 1799 in a remote corner of the Saint Lawrence valley, a young mother is forced to shelter five British soldiers, resulting in a night of horrific events. The film is distributed by Atopia Distribution.
