Telefilm Canada and the Rogers Group of Funds have announced the eight films to receive funding under the 2011-2012 Theatrical Documentary Program.

These include theatrical documentaries like Vincent Goes To Hell: An Alice Cooper Doc Opera, a biopic about famed rocker Alice Cooper by Devil’s Note Films and writer/directors Reginald Harkema, Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn, and Montreal director Yung Chang’s exploration of the global fruit trade, The Fruit Hunters, from EyeSteel Productions.

Also receiving coin for production or post-production is writer/director Patrick Reed’s Fight Like Soldiers, Die Like Children, a doc about child soldiers from White Pine Pictures, writer/director Roger Larry’s Citizen Marc, about pot advocate Marc Emery, and The World Before Her, a look at three women challenging to become Miss India, from Storyline Entertainment and director/writer Nisha Pahuja.

French-language docs receiving backing from Telefilm Canada and the Rogers Group of Funds include Tricotées serrées, a doc about a Quebec women’s association from indie  producer micro_scope and writer/director Annie St-Pierre, Guy Édoin’s Corno – Corps et âme, a film about artist Johanne Corno, and Musique X, a portrait of four Montreal musicians by indie producer Amazone Film and writer/director Magnus Isacsson.
