CRTC accepts Bell Media’s ‘Confession’

All those cop dramas, homegrown and foreign, coming off the assembly line at CTV need their own specialty channel, apparently.

Bell Media on Thursday received permission from the CRTC to launch Confession TV, a digital channel devoted to shows about “people and organizations that uphold law and order in our society.”

That’s a subject that touches on much of the primetime dial, considering Confession TV will focus on shows about the police, law, the courts, emergency and medical response teams, and disaster and relief operations.

Bell Media’s application for the channel spurred no interventions before the CRTC.

To ensure no direct competition with rival channels, on-going dramas and comedies about law enforcement will make up no more than 15% of the Confession TV schedule.
