Global News and Shaw Multicultural partner on Mandarin-language newscast

Global News and Shaw Multicultural Channel are set to launch a new regional newscast, Global National Mandarin, this January.

The 30-minute Mandarin-language newscast will premiere Jan. 23, 2012 and will air Monday to Friday at 7 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. PT on Shaw Multicultural Channel 116 in Vancouver, and at 10 p.m. MT on Shaw Multicultural Channel 89 in Calgary. It is the only Mandarin-language newscast produced by a national network.

“The partnership between Global News and Shaw Multicultural Channel represents our combined desire to bring our Mandarin-speaking viewers the timely and informative news they want and deserve,” said Troy Reeb, Global News VP, in a statement.

Global National Mandarin will source commentary on key stories from prominent people in the Mandarin-speaking community, and work with Global National to air original content and footage. The newscast will also be able to pull global content from Global’s national and international correspondents.

The broadcast’s anchor and on-air team will be announced in early Jan. Global National’s China correspondent Patrick Brown will also report for the newscast.
