Two NFB shorts move ahead in Oscar race

The NFB is looking strong in the Oscar animated short film race, as two of its films have been named to the category shortlist.

Dimanche/Sunday by director Patrick Doyon (pictured) and Wild Life by directors Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby have both made the final 10 in the race to the Feb. 26 awards gala.

The two National Film Board entries were selected for the shortlist out of an original list of 44 short animated films.

Next, the films will have to make it through a final round of committee review in order to be one or two of the three to five films selected to vie for the big prize.

Screenings for the final selection will be held in L.A., New York and San Francisco in January.

The official 84th Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Tuesday, Jan. 24.
