Veteran Hollywood director Jon Cassar (24, The Kennedys) has signed on to direct the Out of Time pilot for Reunion Pictures and Showcase.
“Jon is a brilliant visual stylist and a master storyteller. His experience and sure hand are game changers and his genre defining work on 24 and Terra Nova speaks for itself,” Jeff King, executive producer of the homegrown police procedural, said after hiring Cassar, a native Canadian with an impressive Hollywood track record.
Before directing and executive producing 24 in Los Angeles, Cassar directed a host of pilots and regular season episodes for Canadian action dramas like La Femme Nikita, Mutant X and Queen of Swords.
His other directing credits include episodes of Fringe, Criminal Minds, Human Target, Profiler, Due South, Dead Zone, Forever Knight, Street Time and Kung Fu: The Legend Continues.
Cassar was also an executive producer and director on all eight episodes of the Shaw Media miniseries The Kennedys, which was shot in Toronto.
Shaw Media ordered 10 one-hours of Out of Time, a futuristic procedural about Kyra Cameron, a regular cop from 2077 trapped in contemporary Vancouver.
In Out of Time, Kyra Cameron pursues nine ruthless criminals from the year 2077 after they escape execution through a rift in time.
When her second skin that doubles as a communication device malfunctions, Cameron calls for backup and Alex Sadler, a current-day tech genius, hears her call as she attempts to capture the terrorists before they alter history.
No word on casting.
Out of Time is set to shoot in Vancouver from January 2012, with Showcase to debut the homegrown drama in spring 2012.
The series was developed by executive producer and creator Simon Barry, along with Jeff King, Tom Rowe and Patrick Williams who share executive producer credits.
GK-TV is handling international sales of Out of Time.
