Twilight fans raced to Canadian theatres to see Breaking Dawn – Part 1, but not in record numbers.
The latest installment of the Twilight franchise brought in $8.7 million at the Canadian box office from 704 screens on its opening weekend, according to distributor Entertainment One.
That failed to match the record opening weekend box office of $11 million in Canada two years ago for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, a sequel to the 2008 box office hit Twilight.
Entertainment One did better in Robert Pattinson’s native UK, where it also released the fourth in a series of five Twilight films.
Twlight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 brought in $22 million on its opening weekend in Britain.
That represented the biggest ever opening for an American film in the U.K., and the biggest opening to date of the Twilight series in that territory.
Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 is the fourth in a series of five films, which stars Kristen Stewart, Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.
