Rogers Media is claiming victory with the Fox drama Terra Nova beating CTV’s The X Factor in major English Canadian metered markets.
The Citytv network-parent reports Terra Nova is the top-rated new fall show in the 18-to-49 and 25-to-54 demos in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.
During the Sept. 19 to Oct. 30 period, Rogers Media reports Terra Nova posted an average Toronto audience of 295,200 viewers in the 18-to-49 demo, compared to The X Factor performance show on CTV grabbing an average 230,700 viewers in the same demo, and The X Factor results show on CTV Two earning an average 161,800 viewers.
CTV’s own assessment of BBM Canada data reveals an outlier in NBC’s Grimm as the top new show for the 25-to-54 demo in Edmonton.
The metered markets comprise around half of the Canadian TV population, making Terra Nova the top new show for about half of domestic TV viewers.
The U.S. drama about the Shannon family and other settlers travelling back in time to prehistoric Earth to escape threatened extinction in the year 2149 last Monday night grabbed 1.027 million viewers nationally, according to BBM Canada data.
