News of the death of MTV’s The Buried Life, a Canadian creation, is apparently exaggerated.
The U.S.-based MTV Networks last week canceled the reality TV show from Reveille Productions and four Victoria, B.C. creators, Ben Nemtin, Dave Lingwood, Duncan Penn, and Jonnie Penn, after a two-season, 18-episode run.
But it turns out the four Canadian boys have a development deal with MTV Networks to rejig their show and create a pilot for a new series.
“The four of us grew up dreaming of making television and movies and we’re excited for what’s to come with MTV,” The Buried Life creators said in a statement Monday.
The quartet recently shot footage for their upcoming pilot in Vancouver, and will return there in December for more.
News of the latest MTV development deal for Nemtin, Lingwood, and Duncan and Penn followed the Entertainment Weekly website in the U.S. last week reporting that The Buried Life was getting the axe.
The inspirational reality TV series began five years ago when four Victoria friends compiled a list of things to do before they died.
Their eventual MTV series helps others achieve their dreams while the quartet tick off things to do before they die on their own list.
MTV in Canada airs The Buried Life, which in recent episodes featured the four Canadian friends trying to win $1 million in Las Vegas, or crashing the state parade and performing a song and dance routine in Iowa.
