The cameras have started rolling in Bathurst, New Brunswick on the CBC TV movie The Phantoms, from Dream Street Pictures and director Sudz Sutherland.
The telefilm about a real-life high school sports victory is top-lined by Tyler Johnston, Kyle Mac, Holly Deveaux, Greg Bryk (History of Violence) and Wendel Meldrum (Less Than Kind).
The Phantoms recalls the 2009 New Brunswick provincial championship victory of the Bathurst High School varsity basketball team, a year after a road accident that claimed the lives of eight people, including seven players.
Andrew Wreggitt penned the script for the family film, with Timothy M. Hogan and Rick LeGuerrier of Dream Street Pictures producing. It is tentatively set to air in 2012.
The Phantoms project received financing from the Canadian Media Fund, the Shaw Rocket Fund, the Cogeco Program Development Fund and the New Brunswick provincial tax credit.
