Union Entertainment and Angel Entertainment have pacted to produce and distribute homegrown Canadian films, it was announced at the Toronto International Film Festival Saturday.
Saskatoon-based TV producer Angel, led by toppers Bob Crowe and Wally Start, said they have acquired a minority stake in Toronto-based film producer Union.
The new partnership will get behind Union’s plans to expand its relationships with Canadian filmmakers to acquire their work for distribution at home and abroad.
“The distribution sector is rapidly evolving and we are very happy to partner with Union, the new player in the distribution arena,” Crowe and Start said in a joint statement.
“We are looking forward to working with a team from the west and we are impressed with Angel’s strong management and vision,” Union Pictures’ Cam Haynes said in his own statement.
Terms of the equity deal were not disclosed, but the arrangement is the first part of a step-deal to acquire further financing for film production and distribution.
