Canadian indie Cineflix has rebranded its distribution arm Cineflix International as Cineflix Rights, and has inked a raft of deals for shows including Weird or What? with William Shatner (pictured), ahead of next month’s MIPCOM market in Cannes.

The company said the name change kicks off a plan to expand its IP exploitation beyond distribution into areas including digital content and ancillary revenue.

Cineflix Rights president and MD Paul Heaney added: “The creation of Cineflix Rights is an exciting move for the company, demonstrating our keen focus on significantly expanding our IP exploitation into new areas and growing the division substantially in the near future.”

On the deals front, the firm has established pacts with ZDFneo for Weird or What? with William Shatner; Galaxie Presse/France 5 for seasons nine and 10 of Mayday; Planète+ in France for Border Security, Urban Legends and the recent Gemini-winning Nazi Hunters; TMC in France for Inside The Box with Ty Pennington; and La Sexta in Spain for Huge Moves.

Cineflix Rights has also closed acquisitions deals to represent Blink TV’s Driving Wars format, Impossible Pictures’ series WW2: The Last War Heroes; and Windfall Films’ Dambusters: Building The Bouncing Bomb and Lost Ships of Rome.
