David Cronenberg and Pedro Pires represent Canada at Telluride

David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method and Pedro Pires’ short Hope will wave the Maple Leaf flag in Telluride with sneak slots at the Rocky Mountain film festival before moving onto Toronto.

Cronenberg’s latest picture will also follow Toronto with a prestige gala at the New York Film Festival.

Montreal-based producer PHI Films will also see its short film Hope, by Pedro Pires, receive its world premiere at Telluride before its Canadian premiere in Toronto.

Hope is the second short film from Pires, who directed Danse Macabre, winner of the best Canadian short at TIFF in 2009.

Past indie films like The King’s Speech, Capote, Up in the Air and Black Swan began their Oscar campaign in Telluride before shifting with generous critical buzz to Toronto for formal bows.
