British and American TV movie producer Trevor Walton has surfaced at CBC English TV as its new executive director of commissioned and scripted programming.
Walton was most recently head of coproductions for Echo Bridge Entertainment, and executive produced The Amanda Knox Story for A&E Lifetime, which starred Hayden Panettiere and Marcia Gay Harden.
Having started his career in Britain, Walton is also a former SVP at Lifetime Television and oversaw made-for-TV movies at CBS and Fox Network during the 1990s.
His appointment was unveiled by Kirstine Stewart, EVP of CBC English Services, who underscored his ability to hammer out international TV projects that can work across a range of platforms.
“His breadth of experience in Canada, the United States and the U.K. covers a wide range of production, international coproduction and talent and creative development, including multi-platform environments,” Stewart said in a statement.
Walton in his own statement said he looked forward to working with Canadian indie producers to tell Canadian stories at home and abroad.
“Canada has both depth and breadth in all areas of the entertainment production ecosystem, and CBC as a national public broadcaster has the strong, successful, and engaging platforms to showcase Canadian programming,” he said.
