Web series wins Rogers Pitch at Gimli

A comedic horror web series has captured the Rogers $10,000 Pitch development deal at the 2011 Gimli Film Festival in Manitoba, which wrapped on Sunday.

Quinn Greene won over the panel of industry professionals at the Gimli Theatre with his pitch for Brad Even Paler, a six-ep comedic horror about a geek-turned-loser vampire.

“The pitch was strong, the material was strong, [and] it was well-contained – the character and story was well suited to the medium that he was writing for,” juror Deborah Wilton of Telefilm Canada said in a statement.

“During On Screen Manitoba’s industry sessions at the Gimli Film Festival we have been exploring new trends in production. I think it’s exciting that a web series won the development deal with Rogers,” added Nicole Matiation, executive director of On Screen Manitoba, in a statement.

Other finalists included Hersh Seth (Arranged), John B. Lowe (Art School Warrior, Small Balls), Carson Nattrass (Dances With Daughter), Adam Bumbolo and David Evans (Legacies), Benjamin Aytona, Aaron Graham and Adam Smoluk (Man In The Trunk), Shannon Guile, Jane Testar, Garth Merkeley, Ryan Miller and  Jacqueline Loewen (Sketchy).
