The indie producer behind the Captain Canuck movie has finally been unmasked.
Comic artist Richard Comely, who launched the superhero comic strip in 1975, on Tuesday revealed Minds Eye Entertainment has acquired the rights to his comic book series, and is now at work on a movie adaptation.
“I have always been a big fan of Captain Canuck, and we are honored to be working with Richard on bringing Canada’s greatest superhero to the big screen,” Minds Eye CEO Kevin DeWalt said in a statement.
A live-action movie based on the Captain Canuck character has been in the works for some time, including one unsuccessful attempt with Sinking Ship Entertainment.
But following Marvel Comics superhero franchises like X-Men and Fantastic Four being shot in Canada, Minds Eye will now take its turn and work to release a movie based on a Canadian masked crime fighter into the world market.
“I’m confident we can make a movie that will appeal to audiences both in Canada and around the world,” Comely said in his own statement.
Big screen treatment for Captain Canuck, who originated as an honest RCMP officer turned intelligence agent Tom Evans, comes as interest in the comic book franchise is picking up.
