ABC and Global Television renew Rookie Blue

It’s official: ABC and Global Television in Canada have picked up the Canadian cop drama Rookie Blue for a third season.

The success of Rookie Blue’s sophomore season on Thursday nights at 10 p.m. has prompted both broadcasters to renew for another cycle, which is now in development.

Production on the third season is slated to start this summer in Toronto.

Rookie Blue is a proven hit on both sides of the border, and we’re proud to announce its renewal alongside ABC,” Barbara Williams, SVP of content at Shaw Media, said Wednesday.

Rookie Blue’s sophomore season bowed on June 23 on Global Television and drew 1.5 million total viewers for the opening episode, according to BBM Canada data.

The Canadian drama was developed by Thump Inc. and is produced Entertainment One.

The series follows five young cops played by Missy Peregrym, Gregory Smith, Travis Milne, Enuka Okuma and Charlotte Sullivan.

Rookie Blue is executive produced by Tassie Cameron,  Ilana Frank, Noreen Halpern, John Morayniss and David Wellington.
