The Canada Media Fund has announced the recipients of its latest round of Experimental Stream funding, with games comprising half the projects receiving the $11.6 million production investment.
That production investment — with a $525,000 average commitment per project — makes up a good chunk of the $16.8 million total investment in the Stream, which funds interactive digital media content and software apps.
B.C.’s Slant Six Games landed $1 million for its console/PC flight simulator Strata: Scavenger, the most coin on the games side, followed closely behind by Capybara Games with $975,000 for its multiplatform Puzzerker and tween-targeted Trinketz ($924,072) from Dark Matter Entertainment.
Other games include choreographing tool DanceMaker.me from A la Carte Videos ($740,000), smartphone language app Supiki from LinguaComm Enterprises ($693,225), social media simulation app GreenSpace from iThentic Canada ($561,347), console platformer Guacamelee from DrinkBox Studios ($450,000), virtual pet myKaboo from m100 ($422,213), sim/casual RPG Tenth Muse from Telos International ($415,000), Secret Ponchos from Switchblade Monkeys Entertainment ($300,000) and The Travel Detective ($290,000) from Glassbox Media.
In addition, five interactive contents, four mobile apps, one interactive web series and one app software landed funding.
On the development side, the CMF is pouring $4.3 million in 25 projects, with an average of $171,000 offered to each project, as well as $1 million in four projects for marketing assistance, with an average contribution of $262,000.
