Shaw Communications acquires B.C. cable rival

Western Canadian cable giant Shaw Communications has acquired British Columbia player Sun Country Cablevision and affiliates Armstrong Cablecom and Enderby Cablecom.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but will give Calgary-based Shaw control of cable systems in B.C.’s central interior.

“Sun Country has built an excellent system which represents a terrific addition to our existing cable properties and we are excited to expand our presence in the Interior of British Columbia,” Shaw president Peter Bissonnette said in a statement.

Sun Country, which launched in 1984, offers TV, phone and internet services to its subscribers.

Shaw Communications is the country’s second-largest cable operator, behind Rogers Communications in eastern Canada.
