Ex-Technicolor exec to head up new Montreal prodco

Montreal producer Daniel Vermette is returning to his production roots to head up the newly formed Connexion Films International in Montreal, a prodco dedicated solely to coproductions.

Connexion is owned by Attraction Media, which is comprised of eight companies including Jet Films, Bubbles Television and Delphis Films.

The former VP, Canada of Technicolor Creative Services says that he sees a lot of opportunity in the growing coproduction market.

“It all started with Pillars of the Earth, which I negotiated for Technicolor,” the newly minted Connexion president tells Playback Daily. “It was very interesting seeing that people from abroad were interested in doing post in Canada. Coproductions are guiding new partnerships and encouraging lots of discussions, so we decided to serve that market.”

“It’s not just about finance, but about the pool of talent and infrastructure that we have here in Canada,” he adds.

Currently, the Connexion office is based in Montreal office and the management will soon be named.

While it’s still early days, Vermette says that Connexion will focus on both film and TV, with varying budgets. He notes that drama and fiction are natural fits for copros, but he’s open to all genres and is currently in conversations with producers for upcoming projects.
