Mongrel Media acquires Sundance audience award winner

Mongrel Media has snapped up the Canadian rights to Iranian-American director Maryam Keshavarz’s Circumstance, the Sundance award winner from sales agent Participant Media.

The debut feature about a love affair between two Iranian women, Shireen and Atafeh, won the audience award at Sundance earlier this year.

Circumstance stars Sarah Kazemy and Vancouver’s Nikohl Boosheri.

Keshavarz also produced Circumstance alongside Karin Chien and Melissa M. Lee.

The Canadian distribution deal was hammered out by Mongrel Media president Hussain Amarshi and Participant president Ricky Strauss.
