Magical Elves eyeing a Canadian production base

Dan Cutforth of reality TV production giant Magical Elves has been admiring the majesty of the Canadian Rockie mountains this week while attending the Banff World Media Festival and delivering a keynote speech to festival delegates.

But the unscripted TV guru also has a Canadian production arm in his sights.

“It’s hard to put a number on these sorts of things, but it’s good for us to have an international profile. And Canada is a place where it makes a lot of sense for us to be in business,” Cutforth, who along with Jane Lipsitz runs Magical Elves, told Playback Daily.

I would love to one day establish a production base in Canada and make shows here. I’m sure there are some good business opportunities for us here,” Cutforth added.

A move into the Canadian market would follow local versions of Magical Elves shows like Project Runway and Top Chef (pictured) doing well for Canadian broadcasters.

Cutforth said another of his shows, Work of Art: The Next Great Artist for Bravo stateside, is ripe for similarly being dipped in maple syrup.

Magical Elves also produced Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, the Paramount Picture theatrical concert movie about the Canadian musical sensation.
