Doug Smith is taking the reins at CBS Studios International, Canada, as its new VP and general sales manager.
He’ll be based in the Toronto office, reporting to Armando Nuñez, president, CBS Studios International. His new role will see him taking the lead on the division’s sales and distribution activities across all platforms in the country.
Smith takes over for veteran executive Bruce Swanson, who is retiring after 25 years. Swanson will remain with CBS for a short period while Smith transitions into the role.
“We are fortunate and thrilled to find an executive the caliber of Doug Smith to succeed Bruce in Canada,” said Nuñez in a statement. “His broad range of experience and successful sales track record will be instrumental in driving revenues and continuing to strengthen our brand in Canada.”
Smith comes to CBS from his own consultancy company, advising clients such as Cineplex Entertainment, Corus Entertainment and Rogers Communications.
He has served as EVP at Alliance Atlantis, SVP at Alliance Releasing, and at Ellis Entertainment, and is credited for negotiating the first studio VOD deal in Canada.
