An enthusiastic crowd helped recognize four of the CFC’s most dedicated volunteers last night, as Playback joined the organization to celebrate the 2011 Payback Playback awards.

An annual event, the Payback awards seek to recognize volunteers who have gone above and beyond to help the CFC execute its mandate to foster film, TV and media training and education in Canada.

This year, Payback awards were given to Kyle Purcell, a PA, grip and best boy who volunteered on over 25 productions in the past year; Ruth Secord, a costume designer who has dedicated her time to 17 productions at the CFC in the past two years; Jeffrey Hanes, production manager, with five CFC projects under his belt and Darcy Arthurs, project supervisor for Technicolor Creative Services, who has contributed time and talent to eight of the CFC’s Short Dramatic Films.

The CFC’s 2011 Short Dramatic Films were also screened at the event, including the heart-string-tugging Parkdale, about two young girls struggling with a deadbeat dad; Oliver Bump’s Birthday, a comedy about a family of genius children who die suddenly from burnout on their 13^th birthdays; Silent Cargo, a dark account of an illegal overseas immigration gone wrong; and The Secret of Goat, a satire/comedy/fantasy about a man who loves his goat more than his wife.
