Ottawa confirms CBC and CMF funding in budget

Deficit-slaying in Ottawa has spared the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. and the Canada Media Fund.

Finance minister Jim Flaherty, releasing his latest federal budget Monday, made good on an earlier commitment to give the Canada Media Fund $100 million per year in on-going funding, and for the ninth year running gave the CBC “one-time” funding of $60 million.

The federal funds for the CMF are combined with contributions from cable and satellite TV subscribers to help produce homegrown TV shows.

Both the funding for the CBC and the CMF were in an earlier spring budget that triggered a recent federal election which in turn gave the ruling Conservatives control of Parliament.
