Overshadowed by Toronto and Montreal, Ottawa last year posted $83 million in film and TV production activity, the Ottawa-Gatineau Film and Television Development Corporation reports.
That translated to around 600 shooting days and $23 million dropped directly into the local Ottawa economy in 2010.
“These numbers are modest compared to Montreal and Toronto’s film activity, but our production value is greater than some US states and is increasing every year,” Roch Brunette, general manager of the Ottawa-Gatineau Film and Television Development Corporation, said in a statement.
Bolstered by Ontario’s all-spend tax credit, Ottawa’s credits last year racked up local TV shoots for All For Nothing by Mountain Road Productions, Prime Radicals from indie producer GAPC, and Moitié, moitié from Slalom Productions.
Movies shot locally last year include House at the End of the Street, from genre producer ZedFilmworks, La Balestra Productions’ Sacrée and Another Man’s Wife, The Stepson and Metal Tornado from Sound Venture Productions.
More recent Ottawa shoots in 2011 include the Canadian-Danish horror film Eddie, from Quiet Revolution Pictures, and Secrets From Her Past, by Sound Venture.
Set to shoot in Ottawa this year is the 22-part youth series Motel Monstre from Slalom Productions and the children’s series Mouki 3 from Gatineau-based Nish Media.
