Cookie Jar has signed a record deal for its live-action/animated hybrid series Mudpit with Universal Music Canada.
The deal calls for the record label to release two albums with 26 original songs, one from each episode of the music-driven kids series set to bow on Teletoon Canada’s English and French language services this fall.
The Cookie Jar/Universal Music Canada deal follows MIPTV, where the partnership to exploit the home entertainment and music and video elements of Mudpit was sealed.
“We have partnered with Universal Music Canada because they got the concept of the series right from the beginning,” said Cookie Jar CEO Michael Hirsh in a statement.
Mudpit, which blends CGI animation and live action, portrays four high school friends who form a band and enter an online competition climb their way to cyber-stardom.
The series’ songs were penned by Andrea Wasse, Patrick Pentland and Greig Nori, the former front man of Canadian alt rock band Treble Charger.
Last Gang Entertainment executives Chris Taylor and Mark DiPietro are looking after music production.
