Sayers’ council confident charges will be dropped

The prosecution of Anthony Sayers, co-host of The Unsellables from Cineflix Productions, continues to wind its way through the justice system, with his lawyer confident all criminal charges will soon be dropped.

Toronto lawyer Karen McArthur, representing Sayers in courtroom #505 at College Park Court on Thursday, told the court that she is reviewing the case with Crown attorney Michael Callaghan, with an eye to having the case withdrawn.

McArthur complained that two police officers that arrested Sayers on March 12 have yet to disclose key evidence, leaving the Crown and defense unable to have “fulsome discussions.”

Outside the court, the lawyer told Playback Daily that Crown prosecutors will be compelled to withdraw all charges against Sayers if they have no “reasonable prospect of conviction.”

The case was put over until April 18 at 10 a.m.

Sayers, 41, is charged with criminal harassment and fraud in relation to renovation work done on a Toronto home by his private contracting company.

Sayers did not appear in court Thursday.

Prosecutors have already dropped one charge of extortion against the HGTV Canada on-air personality during an earlier court hearing.

Sayers, also known as Barrington Anthony Sayers, still faces another three charges, two counts for criminal harassment and one for fraud under $5,000.

Besides The Unsellables, Sayers was also the featured carpenter on 52 episodes of the W Network series Me, My House and I.
