The Bell Broadcast and New Media Fund is bringing back its Matching Broadcaster Bonus.
According to executive director Andra Sheffer, the Bell Fund had folded the bonus last year at the introduction of the Canada Media Fund, stating that any CMF-funded digital media component would receive a 10% minimum financing from the Canuck broadcaster.
“In the end, every little bit helps,” Sheffer tells Playback Daily. “We’re not matching millions, but we want to encourage broadcasters to contribute.”
She says the bonus had been in place for eight to 10 years before the Bell Fund dropped it last year, but the demand was so great that it was brought back.
The bonus will match all broadcaster cash contributions to a digital media project approved by the Bell Fund to a maximum of $100,000, with no more deductions for the 10% license fee, as mandated by the CMF.
All projects qualify for up to $250,000 for the digital media component, as well as an amount matching the broadcaster’s cash contribution.
