CBC regains Giller Prize broadcast

The CBC has snagged the Giller Prize literary kudosfest from CTV with a new five-year TV contract.

The deal with Giller Prize founder Jack Rabinovitch will see the CBC air the Giller Prize gala each fall through 2015, with possible program tie-ins for CBC Radio, specialty channels and CBC.ca.

“We are delighted to call the CBC home again. We consider this a perfect partnership, especially with the network’s extraordinary commitment to Canadian literary programming,” Rabinovitch said in a statement.

The CTV first secured the Giller Prize TV rights in 2005, to add to its then stable of Canadian awards shows, including The Junos and Canada’s Walk of Fame.

The Giller Prize and its cash prize was launched in 1994 in memory of Jack Rabinovitch’s late wife, Doris Giller.
