Music firm Chris Smith Management turns to film and TV

The music firm that manages Canuck pop singers Nelly Furtado (pictured) and Fefe Dobson is breaking into the film and TV industry and is seeking a range of talents for its roster.

“We want to become full service with an acting management division,” manager Chris Smith tells Playback Daily. “Our clients get scripts on a monthly basis. The requests have become so great that you have to address it and we thought this is the best way to service that fully.”

Furtado has already appeared in last year’s TIFF opener Score: A Hockey Musical, Max Payne and CSI: NY, while Dobson has had roles on Hellcats and True Jackson VP.

Smith says his firm’s objective is to partner with major US and UK management companies over the next two years to expand his global relationships. Steering the division is film and TV entertainment manager Edward Power.

A current client, Karl Campbell (The Breakout Kings, Lost Girl), was cast as the lead baddy in the upcoming feature film True Love Waits by writer/director Patrick Phillips from Opine Entertainment.

The firm is also developing scripts tailored to its artists, including one centered on Fefe Dobson’s life.

Along with work for its existing clients, the firm is also looking for new talent to join its growing roster.
Chris Smith Management is headquartered in Toronto, with offices in Florida and New York.
