As an election threat looms, the feds are handing out coin to two industry bodies in Vancouver.
Capilano University and the Motion Picture Production Industry Association of British Columbia on Thursday received a combined $1.47 million to build out Vancouver’s stereoscopic 3D business and attract new investment.
Lynne Yelich, minister of state for western Economic diversification, pumped $969,000 into Capilano University to buy stereoscopic 3D equipment, including cameras, monitors and two S3D camera rigs to train students and local film crews.
The rest of the money goes to the MPPIA to market and attract investment into B.C.’s film, TV and digital production sectors over the next three years.
“This funding significantly increases the opportunity to showcase the strengths of the British Columbia industry in key international markets and achieve a greater share of the world’s entertainment production in an increasingly competitive global environment,” MPPIA BC chair Peter Leitch said in a statement.
