WGC announces screenwriting award noms

Less Than Kind (pictured) dominates the TV comedy category for this year’s WGC Screenwriting Awards, nabbing three of the four nominations in the category.

Chris Sheasgreen (“Coming Home” episode), Garry Campbell and Jen Beasley (“The Deluge”), and Jenn Engels (“Fasto Loves Lebso”) all received nods for their season two eps of the Buffalo Gal Pictures and Breakthrough Entertainment series.

Rounding out the category are Bruce McCulloch and Mark McKinney for penning the “Cause of Death” ep from Kids in the Hall: Death Comes To Town.

TV Drama sees nods to Tassie Cameron (“Girlfriend of the Year”) and Russ Cochrane (“Hot and Bothered”) for season one of the eOne/Global TV cop procedural Rookie Blue. Flashpoint, meanwhile, received a duo of noms for Pamela Davis (“Acceptable Risk”) along with Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgenstern (“Jumping at Shadows”).

Rounding out the drama nominations is a nod to Durham County, for writer Laurie Finstad-Knizhnik (“Distance, Hunting and Home”).

On the Animation front, League of Super Evil from Nerd Corps Entertainment sees two noms for Edward Kay (“All You Can Eat”), as well as Philippe Ivanusic-Vallee and Davila LeBlanc (“Voltina”).

Temple Street’s Wingin’ It also landed a pair of nods in the Children and Youth category for Ramona Barckert (“She Blinded Me With Science”), and Conor Casey and Lyndon Casey (“The Spinner And The Saint.”)

For Movies and Miniseries, Michael Konyves scored a nom for his work on Barney’s Version and he’s joined by Adriana Maggs (Grown Up Movie Star) and Dennis Foon (Life, Above All).

The awards will be handed out on April 11 in Toronto. The full list of finalists is available here.

This story was updated March 1, 2011 to include the nomination for Durham County, which was omitted in the original story. Playback regrets the omission.
