OMDC and the Entertainment and Creative Cluster Partnerships Fund back 19 projects

On the heels of announcing the recipients of its Interactive Digital Media Fund, the OMDC and the Entertainment and Creative Cluster Partnerships Fund has revealed 19 projects that have been awarded a total of $10.5 million investment. (OMDC will contribute $2.9 million, with an additional $7.6 million investment coming from 108 partners through the Partnerships Fund.)

Among the recipients are Fresh Baked Entertainment with Mongrel Media, Joe’s Daughter and COMSolve for a multi-platform program for Canadian feature film, which will look at the partners’ social media and online content consumption knowledge to develop a new model for marketing and distributing Canuck films.

Hot Docs was also on the list with Docs on Demand: Phase 2 to develop a strategy to increase financing and distribution opps for Ontario docmakers, along with a host of partners including Interactive Ontario (IO), Canadian Film Centre Media Lab and Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC), to name a few.

Meanwhile, the Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning along with IATSE 667, the Ontario DGC, FilmOntario and ACTRA Toronto are teaming up to establish The Regional Training and Consulting Unit (RTCU). It’ll be part of Sheridan’s Screen Industries Research and Training Centre at Pinewood Toronto Studios and is intended to build up the province’s content production community within the film, television and gaming sectors.

TIFF is zeroing in on the digital realm with TIFF.nexus, bringing together business conferences with f creative jams for the next generation of storytellers. Partners include Ryerson University, Interactive Ontario (IO), Hand Eye Society, Ubisoft Canada and WIFT-Toronto, among others.

And North by Northeast Conferences will cater to the interactive, new media and tech folks, looking to connect the film industry with the digital world, teaming up with partners like FITC Events, the NFB and Writers’ Guild of Canada.
