It’s been a big year for Canadian film; big enough that the Genies are back on network. The 31st Annual Genie Awards in Ottawa will be broadcast live on CBC this year: Thursday, March 10, time TBD.

In 2010, the Genies aired on Canwest’s IFC and via live webcast on CBC.ca. The show was later re-broadcast on Astral’s TMN and Corus’ Movie Central.

“It has been an extraordinary year for Canadian cinema,” noted Ron Cohen, chair of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. “Our films and filmmakers have garnered critical acclaim, accolades, and awards from around the world. It seems absolutely fitting to celebrate the industry’s successes in the nation’s capital and with its public broadcaster.”

Nominations will be announced on Wednesday, February 2.

The Academy has been promoting Canada’s film industry via the Genies since 1980.
