Maple Pictures has acquired the Canadian rights to My Idiot Brother after the Weinstein Company earlier snapped up the Paul Rudd-starrer from Big Beach Films at Sundance.
The theatrical comedy from director Jesse Peretz has Rudd playing a recently-paroled weed seller who meddles in the lives of his three sisters.
The Big Beach Films picture also stars Elizabeth Banks and Zooey Deschanel.
Maple Pictures will take advantage of a wide release planned by the Weinstein Company, which paid a reported $7 million for My Idiot Brother and plans an expensive marketing campaign.
The Canadian distribution deal was hammered out by John Bain, Maple Pictures’ senior vice president of acquisitions, and Rena Ronson for UTA.
