Italy in spotlight, new reality program at Hot Docs

Hot Docs is ramping up as it announces its Made In Italy and Ripping Reality – The B-Sides programs for this year’s festival.

The Italian program will focus on contemporary Italian doc work, programmed by Sean Farnel and Myrocia Watamaniuk, who note that the country’s doc culture is seeing “an emerging renaissance” in the last decade. Past national and regional cinemas that have been explored through the Made In programs include South America, South Korea and, Mexico, to name a few.

Meanwhile, Hot Docs will also present a retrospective of under appreciated docs from the last decade, an extension of 2010’s Ripping Reality program. The B-Sides asks festival programmers to recommend films they wished they’d programmed.

Specific titles and programming will be announced in late March.

This news comes on the heels of the festival shuffling its program team.

Hot Docs runs from April 28 to May 8.
