Summit Entertainment, which shot the comic book adaptation Red in Toronto, is planning a sequel.

The mini-studio has recruited Erich and Jon Hoeber to pen a script for a second helping of the thriller.

Red has crossed the $90 million box office mark, prompting Summit to attach the Hoeber brothers to a second screenplay, ahead of a possible greenlight for a sequel.

The thriller was produced under Lorenzo di Bonaventura’s production banner and directed by Robert Schwentke at the Showline Studios in Toronto in early 2010.

The first installment portrayed a former black-ops CIA agent returning from retirement to catch a hi-tech assassin out to murder him.

Schwentke also directed the 2007 action movie The Time Traveler’s Wife in Toronto.
