Banff adds to keynote speaker lineup

Margaret Loesch, head of a new kids and family entertainment channel from Discovery Communications and toy maker Hasbro, is to deliver a keynote speech at the upcoming Banff World Media Festival.

Loesch, whose program development and production credits includes Smurfs, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers and Jim Henson’s Muppet Babies, is to talk about the new brand in the kids TV space.

The Hub, which replaced Discovery Kids last year, reaches around 61 million U.S. cable and satellite households, and targets a young 6 to 12 year-old demo.

“Ms. Loesch has spent her impressive career at the forefront of kids’ entertainment and is a key force in shaping the children’s television industry,” Ferne Cohen, executive director of the Banff World Media Festival, said in a statement about her latest choice for the festival’s keynote speaker lineup.

The Banff World Media Festival is set to run from June 12 to 15 in the Canadian Rockies.
