Starz to air Camelot from April 1

Camelot, from Canadian indie producer Take 5 Productions and Irish partner Octagon, is to debut on the U.S. cable channel Starz on April 1.

The 10 episode costume drama, a modern day retelling of the Arthurian legend, will air Friday nights at 10 p.m.

The multipartite Camelot co-production was shot in Ireland before post production in Toronto.

Camelot sees Joseph Fiennes star as Merlin, Jamie Campbell Bower as Arthur, and film actor Eva Green make her TV debut as the darkly powerful Morgan.

Take 5, headed up by John Weber, is also co-producing The Borgias for CTV and Showtime.

Camelot was written by Chris Chibnall, and originates from British film producer Graham King’s GK Films, a recently-launched TV producer led by former Lionsgate executive Craig Cegielski.

Also stick-handling Camelot is Morgan O’Sullivan and Michael Hirst, who were behind Peace Arch Entertainment’s The Tudors, which also shot in Ireland and posted in Toronto.

Starz and Britain’s GK-tv are the U.S. and international distributors of Camelot, respectively, while Take 5 Productions holds the Canadian rights.

Ecosse Films and GK-tv are executive producing.
